We will be have a Bottle Drive on the 6th of July! With this fundraiser, students have the opportunity to raise money toward their Festival trip expenses. We will be going around designated neighborhoods and collecting empty cans and bottles after the big holiday. We will meet at Lakeland High School at 1 o'clock and it will run until roughly 3 o'clock. From there, we will be going to Meijer to 'cash in' our recyclables. We want everyone to have the opportunity to go to Festival this year. It is a fun experience and it helps open a lot of doors for our students. We hope to see you all there!
Thank you for a wonderful season and banquet! I'm so proud of our accomplishments and the
opportunity to work with such a dedicated and talented community!
Leadership Camp (deadline June 30th!) Michigan Education Thespian Association (META) hosts an amazing two day camp full of workshops on theatre topics as well as developing leadership skills. This year the festival will be at MSU Aug 11-12th, cost is $60 TOTAL (registration, meals, hotel). More info can be found on MichiganThespians.com or emailing me. Money is due directly to me, but registration is done online. This year, we can take as many students that sign up; last year we were limited to four students and they had a BLAST! Since I (and Meg Weeks) are serving on State Board, this means our hvs summer camp has been postponed until next year.
Major Trips Ahead: Thespian Festival & New York Thespian Festival provides students with the opportunity to see show, participate in workshops, perform for feedback, and audition for scholarships. The Festival will be December 4th-6th at SVSU and remain $250 (despite a rise in registration costs) - this includes all meals, hotel, and festival costs. Due to overwhelming requests, I plan on offering a New York trip again (available to theatre and choir students) next year; I am not sure when this trip will take place officially, as I have to verify IA schedules as well as LHS. I plan to use Brightsparks again and cost should be relatively similar. While in New York, we will tour some major sights, see Broadway shows, have sessions with Broadway actors, and explore the Big Apple!
Have a great summer, make good decisions, and support local arts in the community!
Perhaps I'll see some of you at Fiddler June 26-28th; some of our students are involved and yours truly is playing a certain matchmaker ;)
